The Last Leg.....Perry to Cumming to Cornelia,GA...5th to 10th April 2016...

Monday 5th April and we are on the move north to Cumming, north of Atlanta to a another night stopover, this time at Twin Lakes RV Park...
These beautiful spring blooms were at our first rest area on the I-75....
And there we are parked amongst the big boys....
And now time to take a big breath for the more stressy part of the journey....
The I-75 goes through the centre of Atlanta.....
Heavy traffic at times but not too bad on the whole...
Yorkieman did good and held his lane.....with great navigation from me of course...

And we are through....
The King and Queen buildings are a great sight to see when heading north as it means we are now on the outskirts of the city....
And our home for this evening is at a very pretty campsite with lots of spring blossom....
This and next 4 photos taken of the campsite....
Wild wisteria...very pretty and scented but very invasive too....

Our home on wheels tucked up in storage for the next couple of months....all being well we shall return mid June....

But our trip is not yet over as we shall be spending the next few days with our  friends back in Cornelia....Yorkieman's favourite view from their back deck....
This and next photo....the spring blooms of the dogwoods and azaleas....
Tallulah Gorge and Falls State Park just north of Cornelia and a place we have been planning to visit for some time....it has an interesting interpretative centre and view points of the gorge and falls....
The Gorge at 900 ft deep is the deepest canyon this side of the Mississippi....
It was a good visit, would like to return at some stage and hike some of the trials....
Well Blog Watchers we have to sign off from another blog as today we should be flying back across The Pond to our static home and having a good reunion with family and friends....we have a good time again and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the Georgia 4.....
We have a busy couple of months back in Blighty before all being well starting another part of our great adventure in mid June.....

For now thank you for following the blog.....
Bye for now....

The Snowbirds Are Flying North...Jacksonville,FL to Perry,GA.....4th April...

Misty morning at the lake at Pecan Park RV Park......
It was very chilly overnight but a beautiful morning and today will be wall to wall sunshine, no humidity and a perfect high 70's F.....
This campsite is perfect for an overnight easy in easy out or like us a longer stay....campsite full every night as the mass exodus north continues....
Back into Georgia......

On the reverse journey to Perry we take the scenic 341 N....like the 82 E on our way down a good quiet 4 lane highway....
Pine forests then pecan farms.....
We passed through some really neat towns....we would love to stop and explore them all but not always possible when moving on with our home-on-wheels...

The library building in one of the small towns we passed through on 341N...
Fascinating old railroad bridge, I just managed to get a snap of it as we drove across the road bridge...
We love "small town America".......we must come back and explore the South Georgia towns...
Tomorrow we are driving back up through Atlanta to a campsite near the storage facility in Cumming and this might be my last photo of a water-tower for this road trip !!!! I know all of you water-tower watchers will very sadden by this !!
The Pecan trees starting to bud......this is also a good area to get "boiled peanuts" not a favourite of ours but very popular....

Well we can all critisise Walmart but for us RVers when there is not a rest area or pullout we know we can always get in and out of a Walmart carpark...so today this is our lunch sandwich spot !!
And this is us parked at Walmart !!
We arrived mid afternoon back at Crossroads Travel Park, Perry for another overnight stop.....
The joys of home owning.....when I put the slide-outs out I discovered one of the paddles from the lounge ceiling fan on the floor...repair will have to wait until we return for our next road trip....
For now we've had a good day driving through small towns in South Georgia...

Sebastian to Jacksonville, FL......31st March to 3rd April 2016...

Today we must say our fond farewells to our new friends and neighbours at Whispering Palms and start our return journey north to Georgia.....we had torrential rain from 05.30 but luckily it had stopped by the time we needed to hitch up our home on wheels and head for the I-95 north for the 200 miles to Jacksonville.....we had been warned that the snowbirds will now be flying north and yes it is quite an exodus !! Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a good photo of the amount of motorhomes on the move.....

This and photo above taken at one of the rest areas on the I-95.....a good 80% of all tags/number plates seen today on motorhomes and cars were from Northern States or Canada.....
And here we are back at the Port of Jacksonville seen from the I-295 and about 15 minutes ....no wonder there are so many car transporters on the I-95 !!!
Not only is Jacksonville a huge container port but is also a cruise ship terminal...
Our campsite at Pecan Park, Jacksonville is large and we have seen fabulous motor homes, 5th wheels and trailers with top of the range detailed paintwork but our favourite is this one which of course we had to call Priscilla....
We were here for 4 nights to prep our home on wheels for storage, we do have a trip out to Camping World for exciting things like holding tank chemicals and light bulbs....we know how to live it up.....
Yorkieman is happy as we have the golf channel although the TV warnings about a possible tornado were not what we wanted  !! Luckily we just had a huge thunder storm and torrential rain....the storm cleared the air though and Sunday was a perfect clear blue sky day and high 70's....
Tomorrow we once more head north to Perry, Georgia....

The Florida Keys....Part Two...25th/26th March 2016.....

Day 2 of our Florida Keys adventure.....
Our truck at the front of the villa, not the whole building of course....

Fabulous villa, well equipped, very comfortable and perfect location for visiting the Keys...

Miss Myra on the upper floor balcony....
The pretty views from both patios are of the inlet and perfect for early morning coffee or evening drinks....
Our villa is part of the Hawks Cay Resort....
This photo taken from one of the bridges of the inland waterway on the resort...
We spend most of our second day south of Marathon walking along the "Old 7 Mile Road Bridge" now a pedestrian only "road"...
A pretty view from the bridge.....the shallow water is a beautiful azure colour and so clear, we were lucky enough to see  a huge Manta Ray, it had to have been 10/12 ft across, unfortunately I wasn't quick enough with the camera !!!
This area of the Keys is popular for all types of water activities....
End of the road !!!
The missing section was blown up (intentionally) during the making of the film
True Lies (love that film).....
Not just water sports that are popular....

The beginning of the northern end of the Old 7 Mile Bridge.....this section is longer than from the southern end and by now it's getting steamy hot !!!
The green iguanas of Florida are a hot topic with locals, they have made the Keys their home but are not native....they eat endangered  plants as well as the gardeners favourite shrubs, hence many end up as food for crab traps !!
Being cold blooded reptiles they need to sun themselves several times a day ....the males can grow up to 5 feet in length.....
This one is for Dave Smart.....
A different kind of lunchtime spot, Key's Fisheries & Restaurant in Marathon with a great view from the upper bar across the Gulf of Mexico !!
Key's Fisheries & Restaurant, they were landing the fish while we were there.....very much a locals eating place, always a good recommendation...
Well I had to this somewhen !!!
Quite a misty day but very very hot and just as well there was some cloud cover or we would have burnt up on our second walk of the day along the old road from the northern end....we walked about 5 miles in total....
The old and the new....
The elevated section of the new bridge...
Back to the villa for a freshen up before heading out again for dinner to Castaways Restaurant in Marathon (about half an hour from here and another recommendation)
The perfect meal: the Fisherman's Platter was awesome as was the very large vodka martini.....
We have had a fun, food and fellowship visit to the Keys but tomorrow we must all return home.....
We said our fond farewells to our villa and the Keys and had a good drive back up the US1 to Homestead and then onto the Florida Turnpike where all was well until 2 miles from the Miami Airport exit when everything came to a grinding halt !!!
Luckily we were an hour ahead of schedule to get Myra and Alexia to flight departures as most of that hour spent crawling along the turnpike much like a normal day on the M25 !!
Yorkieman and I decided to take a different route back home to Sebastian....an interesting drive one or two small towns but mainly acres and acres of sugarcane.... with the occasional acreage of orange groves...today it's mainly clear skies and incredibly hot, sorry folks back in UK we know your Easter was wet and cold and then Storm Katie !!!!
Burning off the sugarcane stubble......the drive through the agricultural area certainly made us sneeze but interesting and a change from the coastal route.....
Myra and I were tickled by this sign in a shop in Key West..... I thought it worth posting !!!
Arrived home tired but happy....
We have a few more days here in Sebastian before we head north once again to Jacksonville ready to put our home on wheels back into storage and head back across the pond...
