| Spanish moss covered trees on the mile long nature trail.... Fort Caroline was settled by the French Huguenots in the mid 1500's only to be massacred by the Spanish who had settled St Augustine farther south....the French then extracted their revenge....meanwhile the native Timucuans could not survive the European diseases and massacres....
